The WD Purple 6TB Surveillance Hard Drive WD62PURZ is designed specifically for security surveillance systems, including DVR and NVR environments that operate continuously. Unlike standard desktop drives, WD Purple storage is engineered for write-intensive, low-bit-rate and high-stream-count workloads commonly found in surveillance applications. Western Digital specifies support for up to 64 HD cameras and up to 16 drive bays for this model.

AllFrame Technology

WD Purple uses AllFrame technology to optimize ATA streaming for surveillance applications. The technology is designed to help reduce frame loss and improve video playback while supporting multiple surveillance streams. The WD62PURZ uses the AllFrame firmware feature and is rated for up to 180TB of annual workload.

6TB Capacity

With 6TB of storage, the WD62PURZ provides substantial capacity for surveillance video recording. It is suitable for security systems requiring continuous recording from multiple cameras and can be used to expand compatible DVR and NVR storage.

Performance

The drive features a SATA 6Gb/s interface, 5640RPM rotational speed and 128MB cache. Western Digital lists a transfer rate of up to approximately 175MB/s for the current WD62PURZ specification.
